We have got some people asking about our photography set when we are abroad and what we carring in our camera bag. Also, a lot of them ask about which camera we use.
We are a semi-professional Travel Photographer with a good eye for the beauty. We try to do our best in every shot. In our camera bag, there is not just Camera, Gear and accessories. In our bag, we carry passion and attention to the details. We start this adventure with a common Bridge, a Fujifilm S4500 with a Zoom, no different lenses, no addition.
Almost all our shots were made with a Fujifilm 4500, paid almost 3 years ago for the birthday present for 150 euro. In less than one year we swap a DSLR of Canon, a 600D with an 18-55 mm Lent. Toti is the Camera specialist, he opts for it because of the flip screen. This camera can be adapted to all shots, even the hardest one, just flipping the screen in the best orientation for you. On the market, there are newest models, if your budget permits buy a new version with more MegaPixel and Wi-Fi integrate.
Our kit is growing up monthly for Toti passion, and also sometimes we took shots with our smartphone, a common I-Phone 6 and a Blu Life Mark II bought on Amazon for less than 100£ last year.
Why we use a Bridge Camera? good question with a good answer. First of all, Toti used this camera for work when he was a journalist in Italy, and he is carrying it all over with us.
The dimension of this camera are really comfortable with our need in term of space (Sometimes or Always, we are backpackers and use to buy tickets with hand luggage only).
A bridge camera is in the middle of a compact camera and a reflex.
You don’t need to carry a lot and heavy lens, but you need with you just your camera and some batteries.
Our other camera has got this zoom lens, so you can change as the situation changing and the shot required.
This is a positive thing about Bridge Camera, but I will advise you to carry a tripod for the night pics, it’s a sophisticated camera and needs to be stabilized before taking a shot. I use to carry a low weight Tripod, bought on Amazon for cheap.
Our personal camera is a Fujifilm Finepix 4500, Bought when Toti was a Journalist in Italy and use to take a shot in every situation with rain or sun and couldn’t carry a lot of lenses or big camera weight. It takes shoot really quick and is touch comfortable.
Is a good camera in almost all kind of scenario, but you need to have practice with this category of camera for start to get really good shot.
It is completely different to the reflex category, give you the chance to set your own way but is limited and not accurate like a reflex.
Is a semi-professional camera, and really good for a start. It Is completely automatic but when you become an expert, you can switch it in a manual mode and set your frames and your point of light.
We bought it for 150€ three years ago, but there is some new bridge camera more sophisticated on the market and you can find a good price online.
The Canon 600D is the camera we chose for our trips, it’s really light and has a lot of features can help you in every situation. We were in different countries with this Camera and never had any problem, shot with sun, rain, snow, full of light or completely dark. In the beginning was really difficult to switch from the bridge to the reflex. The secret is to tray, tray and try again. You will see your skills improving day by day.
We use two different lenses. A classic 18-55 mm of series of Canon. This we bought with the camera and we used for our first shots. We are currently using a Super Zoom lens, a Canon 80-200 mm, sometimes with an external tub.
We are using the external tube just for macro photography and we are not yet really expert about it, so we are open to suggestions.
Do you want to take a shot about you and your friends or your partner and the scenario behind you?. So you need a tripod for sure, can be good to have a selfie stick but don’t look professional to take a pic with it and also you need something stabilize your image.
Sometimes you need to take a video of the place it needs to be stabilized before the post editing, so it’s a good Idea to use it. I bought it on Amazon for 24£ 60″ and 3 Sections, lightweight aluminium support video camera, camera and scopes up to 6.6 lb.
I use small things but with a discrete utility, I use to carry a plastic cover for my SD card, with extra memory. I used different memory capacity for different things. The first is I use to take care of my memory in all my life and I am still using my first SD Memory give to me with the FinePix 4500. That was just 2 GB memory, so now I am using it just in case I am running out.
Totally I have more than 80GB for my picture every day, this is really good especially when I start to shot in RAW for getting better colour and better shot.
In this way, I can use different capacity for different trip and situation.
From a bit of time, I am using a wi-fi SD Card with 16GB Memory. This is really helpful, especially when you want your shot quickly for the post-production or you are on the go and need to post on your social media better shot than your mobile. The Wi-fi Card don’t changing anything on your camera settings, change just on your phone the presence of an app, where you can be connected in real time with your camera.
I use to understand which kind of trip I am in and then I chose the capacity I’ll carry with me. I have SD memory of 4 GB,8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB also I get a 32 GB micro SD for the Action Camera and a 64 GB micro SD for my Smartphone.
Also, I carry an external drive. I am currently using a Passport WD, a lot of people advise me to use one like it. It’s 1 TB Hard Disk where I carry my Shoots and my main software in Portable mode. In this way, I am capable to be on time with my own work wherever I am. I bought a piece where I can connect my Android Smartphone and my Tablet to the Camera and to the HDD external, I can pass the image instantly and start the post production when I need it soon. If you want here there is a guide to how we edit our photo.
If you want to pass from SD memory you need also a Memory Card reader to connect to the switch USB 3.0 to pass the Data.
My Bag is 25 litres personalized. There are 3 pockets, one main with more capacity, capable to carry your personal laptop, also there is another knapsack inside for document and other. The other two pockets have less capacity but are well organized.
On the side of the bag, there are two pockets where you can carry your Tripod and some drink.
On the front of my Backpack, there are some fabric rings where I get in a couple of mountain hooks and a corkscrew for any eventuality (Beer on the road !).
With the hooks, I carry everything, from the tripod if I don’t have space on the side or the pillow for the flight. When I travel to beach destination I get on my shoes or my bikini, in this way I optimize the space in my possession. The cost of this bag? Just 15£ ! Go and have a look.
