As the sun gently bathes the charming streets of Rovinj’s old town, we found ourselves walking through the colourful buildings standing tall, their vibrant facades reflecting the town’s lively spirit and ancient past. With each step, we were walking for so long that we lost sight, as the pleasure of losing ourselves in the narrow alleyways was better than any other sensation. The time here seems to be slowing down.
Rovinj’s old town is so charming; everything breathes an epoques that seems so long ago but feels still alive. Walk around and admire the fantastic buildings lined in narrow alleyways that take you up to the hilltop. From the Church of St. Euphemia, you can see everything.
Bell Tower of St. Euphemia Church
On the hilltop overlooking the sea and the centric village, there is St. Euphemia Church. The iconic monumental ecumenic place is a symbol of Rovinj and is visible from miles away. From the terraces, you can already enjoy the view, but for a better understanding of the surroundings, hike up the narrow staircase.
It was drizzling, as Alessia was having some problems, and we had to stop and breathe a few times. Tourists often skip this site because it is hard to get up but believe us, it is worth the effort.
Enjoy a Gelato on the Promenade
It was hot, even though it was just springtime when we visited Rovinj, so we needed a break. While in Istria, our schedule was tough, starting from Rijeka and visiting them all, Pula, Porec and of course, Rovinj. Well, we have a lot of things to do in Rovinj, but a break on the Riva and eating an ice cream is a must.
Enjoy the ice cream and appreciate the landscape. It was actually a good way to take some cute photos of the town. Then you should know that the ice cream here is very nice, as it is by the border with Italy; they take it very seriously to make gelato, which is technically not an ice-cream. So if your mouth is weathering, it might be a sign you should book your flight to Croatia.
Shop Lavender at the market
All around town, you will see stands selling products; the most popular is lavender. Coming from the nearby fields, the best you can get is from Hvar Island. Famous worldwide for its fantastic smell, Lavender is mostly produced in Croatia, and Rovinj is a good place to shop for some souvenirs.
Rovinj Market is near the waterfront; this bustling market is a feast for the senses. Take in the vibrant colours and intoxicating aromas as you browse through stalls laden with fresh fruits, vegetables, olive oil, truffles, and local delicacies. Even if you are spending just one day in Rovinj, you should stay for the sunset. This was by far one of the best highlights of our Croatia experience and the most romantic thing we must have done in Rovinj.
