We had a fantastic meal in Alaçatı and went shopping, having some bites from local vendors and ending up with a strange gum gelato, which was delicious. We suggest you organise something unique by visiting the picturesque village. A dinner in one of the fantastic restaurants in Alacati is one of the most romantic things to do in Izmir province. Hiring a car in Izmir
If you are a more independent traveller, we get that; we are independent too. We find it easy to book a car before our trip and be on the safe side, paying online with a Credit Card and from renowned providers.
We personally use two companies, Rental Cars and Discover Cars. You can look at the prices at least 2 weeks before your trip starts. However, earlier is better. Having a car gives you the freedom to choose when to do activities and reach the places.
However, spending a little more for a guided tour could be a solution to avoid long driving hours. If you are an experienced driver, there are no problems driving in Turkey, but if you are not, practise before your trip and take it slow. For example, while exploring Izmir, we went for a day trip and got stuck in traffic for hours because of an accident. We were lucky that we could sleep, as we were on a guided tour (cheeky).
