Yes. The history of cherry blossom Berlin is pretty fascinating too. The trees were donated to the city soon after the Berlin wall fell. However, a Japanese television, the TV Asahi, commenced the “Sakura Campaign”. 

This campaign raised nearly 140 million Yen, about  1.3M dollars, to donate the iconic cherry blossom trees to Germany and plant them in Berlin and other cities. 

Needless to say, the project was a significant success. The cherry blossoms thrived in Berlin, the numbers of beautiful trees grew exponentially, reaching today more than 9,000 units around the whole city.

Mauer Weg Inwere  Lichterfelde Süd

Located in the south of the city, near the Lichterfelde Süd Station, this is a relatively less-visited stretch of the Berlin wall. So you can walk by the cherry blossoms at leisure without your peace being disrupted.

The cherry blossoms are spread across two kilometres, and you can walk along the trail to watch the scenery and spot people dressed in costumes of characters from anime. This is the famous spot where the Japanese cherry blossom trees are planted and bloom every year in spring. This avenue is often referred to as TV Asahi Kirschbaumalle and is part of the Japan Corner of Berlin, or as locals call it, “Japaneck”.

Bornholmer Strasse

Nearby the spot above, Mauer Weg, you can find Bornholmer Strasse. Once upon a time, this road was one of the border crossings between East Berlin and West Berlin, with the former death strip passing point at The Bösebrücke until the wall fell in 1991. The road is in the trendy district of Prenzlauer Berg.

Enjoy your nights in Berlin around this incredible district. Nowadays, this iconic cherry blossom road is famous for being mentioned in one of David Bowie’s last successful songs, “Where Are We Now”. In Spring, Bornholmer Straße is extraordinary, creating the perfect atmosphere to enjoy the essence of Berlin. Frankfurter Allee

This is the place where urbanity and nature come together. You will find a cluster of beautiful cherry blossoms around the entrance to the underground station.

Japanese Embassy

The Embassy of Japan is in Tiergarten, which is not very popular among tourists and is ideal for a few photos without many people around.

Zierkirschen Am Oberbaum

I want to preserve the memory of Berlin while paying an ode to the city. So this is where you should be! Here, you will get the opportunity to witness cherry blossoms with the city’s icons in the background. This red-brick bridge connects East and West Berlin and is quite a monumental site.

Kirschblutenweg | Bornholmer Strasse

The name literally means cherry blossoms road in German, so you know this is the perfect spot to find cherry blossoms in Berlin. 

The place holds historical value too. The cherry blossom trees are planted right where the Berlin wall was. Considering the spectacular view it offers, it’s not really surprising that the place is always crowded. The sensational road sees 215 cherry blossom trees that form the Kirschblutenweg and the Sakura campaign memorial.

This spectacular cherry blossom avenue is often crowded with tourists; we suggest you visit it early in the morning to snap the best photos of Berlin.

How to get to Kirschblutenweg Cherry Blossom Lane

We want to write a little more about Kirschblutenweg. The stretch of Norweger Strasse is considered (and we agree) one of the most beautiful cherry blossom lanes in Berlin.

You can arrive here by S-Bahn, red line, getting out at Bornholmer Strasse Station. Following the direction to Berlin Mauer, passing after the Bösebrücke Bridge, you will find an underway passage to the intersection with Norwegerstrasse. You might want to combine a visit to Kirschblutenweg with the Berlin Wall Walk; the two attractions are very close and very popular.

Wollankstrasse | Pankow

This might be the most challenging cherry tree avenue to find on the list. That’s why we kept it at the end of our guide. In the picturesque neighbourhood of Pankow (Bezirk Pankow), the third district in Berlin, you can appreciate one of the most beautiful hidden gems to relish the cherry blossom in Germany.
