We’ve tried to cover all the top spring destinations around Europe and hope not to miss anything. Of course, if we did, it means that we still haven’t been there, so you are welcome to send us suggestions. 

Spring in Europe is one of the most magical and beautiful times of the year. All the cities are starting to bloom pink trees, and the days are getting longer as summer approaches. So let’s begin our Europe spring break itinerary from our home, London.

Spring is a great time to visit Europe because the weather is starting to warm up, the days are getting longer, and flowers and trees are blooming. The crowds are also generally smaller than during the busy summer months, making it easier to explore popular destinations. Many cities and towns in Europe also hold festivals and events during the spring season, offering visitors a chance to experience local culture and traditions.

London, UK

For us, London is one of the best spring destinations in Europe. After a long and grey winter, spring in London becomes even more beautiful. When March approaches, it means that it’s starting the cherry blossom season. If you wonder when is the best time to visit London, spring is the ideal season. Thanks to magnolia and cherry blossom colours, the entire city starts to become alive. 

We love London, and if you want to spend four days in London,  we suggest you make the most of your itinerary and enjoy every corner of this city. Walk around the streets of Mayfair, Notting Hill, Chelsea and Kensington and enjoy the beautiful and colourful surroundings. Don’t forget to snap some pictures as around those areas you will find the best cherry blossom in London.

Barcelona, Spain

A spring break in Spain is always a good idea and on our list, we couldn’t miss Barcelona. Toti is a huge fan of this city and I can’t blame him. Every time that we are planning to spend spring in Europe, we always end up in Spain but still didn’t manage to go to Barcelona together. 

Around March and April, the weather is so nice that you might be able to go and enjoy the sun on the Barceloneta beach. This is one of the best reasons why Barcelona attracts so many tourists in Springtime. The beaches of the Catalan Capital are beautiful and you can explore the surrounding little towns. Stay in a hotel on the beach, or just check the wide range of hotels along the coastline.

Seville, Spain

As we talk about Spain, our top spring destination in Europe, we couldn’t miss the stunning Seville. Located in the Andalucia region, Seville is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. When spring is approaching, Seville is a must-visit for many reasons. The first reason is the famous Feria de Abril, a huge party that lasts for days. It’s similar to Las Fallas in Valencia but less known. 

You will enjoy the beautiful Spanish life, flamenco shows and delicious food. Seville needs to be on your Spanish bucket list as it’s one of the most amazing cities we have ever been to. Remember that this city doesn’t have a sea during the summer months it becomes hot. Spring is the right season to enjoy the entire city without sweating.

Valencia, Spain

If you are planning a spring break in Europe, Valencia needs to be on the top of your list for many reasons. The main reason why visiting Valencia is the Las Fallas Festival.

It’s one of the most important celebrations in Spain, and these falls (figures/sculptures) are displayed for a few days around the city on the last day of this celebration, they are burnt. Why? Because it’s a symbolic act that marks the arrival of Spring.

If you plan a trip to Valencia these days (15th to the 19th of March), we suggest you organise it very carefully. The entire city centre and all locals would be concentrated on celebrating Las Fallas.

Indeed, Spring it’s beautiful in this part of Spain. Valencia’s weather is fantastic all year round, but the city becomes even more beautiful when Spring approaches. We spent two days in Valencia, and we loved every corner of this gorgeous city, from the seaside to the historic city centre; Valencia will become your next favourite spring destination in Europe.

Porto, Portugal

When spring approaches, it means that our anniversary is coming. The special occasion is the main reason you will find us always on the road in March and April. We love celebrating our anniversary in a different country every year. Naturally, we couldn’t miss Portugal and, in this case, Porto.

So far, Porto is one of the best spring destinations in Europe for us. Apart from being gorgeous, Porto has a fantastic landscape that you will love to enjoy around springtime. Stroll around the cute and narrow streets of the city centre, enjoy a glass of Porto wine on a beautiful terrace and discover some history through its gorgeous museums.

You can easily plan a day trip from Lisbon and plan at least one day in Porto. Thanks to its amazing landscapes, delicious food and wine, Porto is considered one of the most romantic European cities and you will understand why.

Sintra, Portugal

As we are in the Portugal mood, you can plan a fantastic day trip from Lisbon to Sintra. Thanks to its colourful Castle and bloom flower, Sintra is the perfect spring destination in Europe. 

Usually, March and April in Sintra are not that busy; we reached the city by car and managed to find a spot. However, it’s rarely happening, and that’s why we recommend you to take the train instead. Once you reach Sintra, you can rent a bike and stroll around this gorgeous city. 

Plan ahead of your day and visit the spectacular gardens and trails of Quinta da Regaleira. Then, walk up to the Pena Palace and don’t forget to snap some pictures as the view from up there is impressive.

Rome, Italy

Rome is known for being one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, one of the most romantic European destinations and now even one of the top spring destinations in Europe. 

The beautiful Eternal City becomes more attractive during springtime. The weather around March and April is pretty decent, and the city is less crowded. Travelling to Rome during the off-season is one of the best things you can do as you will avoid the hot summer temperature.

So if you want to avoid crowds, skipping the usual tourist places, we suggest you plan a trip to Alberobello.

This beautiful white town in Puglia has gorgeous Trulli, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Alberobello becomes a trendy city during summertime thanks to its cute Trulli (cone shape roof house), but if you’re looking into spending spring in Italy, we suggest visiting Alberobello during March and April. Because it’s a perfect time, not too hot like in summer, but neither crowded, offering you a more intimate experience in this weird old white town in Puglia.

Hamburg, Germany

Spending 2 days in Hamburg will give you enough time to explore this beautiful city. So if you’re asking us which one is the best spring destination in Europe, for sure Hamburg is on the list. 

Spending a couple of days around March and April, you will see how the city of Hamburg will be your new favourite place in Germany. Stroll around the historical city centre where “The Beatles” played for the first time, walk along the harbour and admire the stunning Elbphilharmonie.

On this occasion, we picked Athens for our spring destinations in Europe as, most of the time, this city is overwhelmed with tourists. However, the right way to enjoy Athens is to travel off-seasons and in this case, the months of March and April are ideal. Considered one of the best times of the year to visit Athens, you will find signs of bloom around every neighbourhood and ancient monuments.

The weather around these months is excellent and not too hot, but at the same time, you will be able to enjoy some cute and secret cherry blossom trees and jasmine flowers.

Thessaloniki, Greece

Staying within Greece and going off the beaten path, leads us to Thessaloniki. The fantastic second city of Greece is often overshadowed by well known and popular locations in Southern Europe. However, exploring this part of Greece you will find many nice beaches, hidden coves and unique spots. Also, you should consider that a spring break in Europe might break the bank, and leave you with less money for the summer holidays. Instead, we explored Thessaloniki on a budget and it was fantastic. The city has vibes, is lively at night, and has buzzling markets where have lunch and dinner is extremely affordable.

Santorini, Greece

Mainly known as a great summer destination, Santorini will surprise you during Spring. The weather is excellent, warm and sunny and in Spring you will find flowers in bloom. While travelling in summer, this particular view of Santorini is impossible, so take advantage of Spring to find less crowded places and even more beautiful.

Stroll around the Hungarian Parliament, admire the view from the top of the Fisherman Bastion and give yourself a treat. Riga, Latvia

The grey weather tends to leave Riga by the end of March; in fact, life returns in April when you see all the people hanging outside and looking for bloom trees.  

Who doesn’t love spring? Of course, we are the first to be happy when spring comes, and London starts to bloom. The same thing it’s happening in Riga, where locals and tourists love to wander around the city and look for cherry blossoms. 

One of the best places to admire it is in Uzvaras Park. There is a large cluster of cherry trees across the Daugava in Uzvaras Park, and you can’t miss visiting them.

Prague, Czech Republic

Last but not least in our guide of the best spring destinations in Europe, there is Prague. This beautiful city is often underrated, without any good reason. You should add Prague to your list of places to visit in Europe because it is incredible and gorgeous, thanks to the cultural heritage and cheap for travellers.

I mean, the historic city centre, the fantastic surroundings and the stunning spring colours will make your dream about Prague. Check out the beautiful bridge Charles I, one of the best in Europe, but also the Astronomical Clock that will surprise you. Brno, Czech Republic

Less touristic than Prague, Brno is the perfect spring destination in Europe. Within a c couple of hours from the capital, you can reach Brno and spend a couple of days in this South Moravian region. The temperature might be still a bit cold during spring months but still, but Brno is worth visiting in spring. Make sure you stroll around the old town centre, visit the incredible cathedral and grab a beer or two while in Brno!
