The ferry ride takes approximately 30 minutes. The ride was easy, even though on the way back, it was rough. Navigating the island is a breeze, and there are several convenient options for getting around.
It’s a pleasure to walk
Most of the time, we walked, that’s why our accommodation was in Mushroom Bay. Despite Canggu or the nearby Nusa Penida, walking around and having everything nearby is nice. I even walked from Mushroom Harbour to the Yellow Bridge, which took about 40 minutes.
Scooter Rentals
We rented a scooter and visited the other side of the island. The ride will take about 30 minutes to get from one side to the other. Even though there are very few asphalt roads, it is easy to drive. Alessia did a couple of test drives, and it was fun. You can rent a scooter everywhere, but we suggest through your hotel or homestay; it is safer and discourages charging you extras. There are no refuel stations, so you must purchase gasoline bottles on the side of the street.
Buggies
We also observed families renting golf carts, typically used on golf courses, which was quite entertaining. If you know how to drive a motorbike in Southeast Asia, please consider this option.
ATM on the Nusa Islands
Despite Nusa Penida, we didn’t find problems while on Nusa Lembongan. The ATMs seem to be working fine, even though some of them try to scam you or charge too much fees. We got cash out of the ATMs a couple of times without trouble, but we have seen that those work with external batteries, which will be out of use in case of a power outage.
To avoid problems, remember to withdraw enough cash to last for your trip. These two ATMs were the best for us. Option 1 and Option 2.
How long to stay in Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan
We loved these two tranquil islands off the coasts of Bali. While planning a five-day escape from the hectic Bali, we actually extended on the island. In fact, we were rushing through Southeast Asia, and Bali was the only place where we spent 2 months. So, having a few days spare on our planning and still with a valid visa, we decided to stay a total of 10 days in Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan.
However, we know that most travellers spend around 3 to 5 days on Nusa Lembongan, seeking a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere and visiting some of the best beaches in Bali.

One of the main activities to plan while staying at base on Nusa Lembongan is a day trip to Nusa Penida, which involves swimming with Manta Ray. As said, Nusa Penida is just a 20-minute boat ride from Nusa Lembongan. While the biggest island is full of experiences, travelling around is hectic or finding a nice place to stay overnight. This is one of the main suggestions, as the roads are even and if you are not an experienced driver on a motorbike, it will be a nightmare. The significant attractions of Nusa Penida are the high cliffs. From Kelingking Beach to Diamond Beach, a full day’s worth the price tag and perfect if you seek lovely beaches and adrenaline. Go across the yellow bridge to Nusa Ceningan
It was fun to cross the iconic yellow bridge that connects Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. Ale was kind of scared because it seems unstable, but it’s actually pretty secure. Definitely, the yellow colour and the steel structure make it one of the most picture-perfect corners of Nusas Islands. I loved to fly the drone around this iconic landmark; it is charming and impressive if you think it connects two tiny islands. Crossing the bridge to Ceningan, you will go to a different island, more wild but even filled with beautiful beaches.
Explore Nusa Ceningan
Spending a few days in Nusa Lembongan, you can’t miss to match it with a few days exploring the connected Nusa Ceningan. As said before, you can cross the yellow bridge and be surrounded by wildness. We rented a moped (a very cranky one), and in about 20 minutes, we were on the other side. Ceningan is a hidden gem for many.
Something that seems a little secret that everyone tries to preserve. Definitely is the tiniest island of Nusas and doesn’t have services like the two big sisters. However, if you are up for an adventure, it can give you the pinch of adrenaline you are looking for. From crystal-clear blue lagoons and secluded beaches to thrilling cliff-jumping spots, there are so many things to do on Ceningan Island that you can stay around for days.
Relax at Ohana Beach Club
We stayed on the side of Mushroom Bay, which has more relaxed vibes, but often hopped on the motorbikes and drove on Jungutbatu Beachside. Suppose you want to spend a day relaxing, more like when you are in Canggu at La Brisa, well, head to Ohana’s beach club. On this side of the island, many well-organised beach clubs are on the side streets.
Walking on the beach, you will see the Ohana and many others. You can spend the day sipping a refreshing coconut or enjoy the facilities. Ohana Beach Club is one of the most instagrammable places in Bali.

Spend the day discovering Nusa Lembongan’s beaches
Nusa Lembongan is renowned for its pristine beaches, each offering a unique charm. Here are some must-visit beaches:
Dream Beach
Dream Beach is considered the top shoreline of Nusa Lembongan. Spending a day sunbathing in a dreamy tropical destination is a must while staying on the island. We actually loved this beach more than others, and it came even before our dreamy day on Atuh Beach in Nusa Penida. One of the things we love the most it’s that it is free to enter, and nobody asks you money for parking either. At the beach entrance, there is a staircase, easy to get down, and just before that, an Instagram-worthy swing with a perfect view as background. However, you can decide to stay on the beach or lounge at the beach club. The entrance costs only $5 per day and gives you access to the pool as well. This is super-handy as the sea is often rough, making swimming difficult.
Mushroom Bay
We stayed most of the time around Mushroom Bay. The beach is pristine, and it’s the landing harbour if you are coming from Sanur on a fast boat. Yes, you will get down from the boat on the seashore. Anyway, Mushroom Beach is a popular option for holidaymakers on Nusa Lembongan as hotels, homestays and luxury apartments surround it.
We suggest spending some time around sunset, as you will witness the perfect view of Mt. Batur on the other side of the Ocean. Mushroom Bay is our favourite spot on Nusa Lembongan because there are many beach bars, beanbags on the sand, and surf schools, and it’s a pretty nice swimming spot with calm water.
Secret Lagoon Lembongan
Just behind Mushroom Bay, there is a secret spot. Well, it’s not that secret if it is on Google Maps, right? It is indeed secluded, and often, during the low season, it’s impossible to get there because of the tide, which covers the beach entirely. Definitely, the Secret Lagoon in Lembongan Island is worth checking out if you are visiting Bali during the high season. It is challenging to get in, so we suggest walking there. If there is low tide, you might be able to step down from Mushroom Bay shoreline, with a little path on the rocks as well. Be careful if you go this way.
Jungutbatu Beach
Jungutbatu Beach is a long stretch of sand on Nusa Lembongan’s side that faces Bali. It is one of the most developed areas of the island overall and a popular swimming spot. When there is low tide, the beach is big enough to stay on the shore, while in the low season, it gets so narrow that you can neither walk. It’s popular to spot seaweed drying in the sun, as it is what moves the local economy besides tourism.
Be careful as some areas are just for boats, and many fast boats from Bali approach near the shore. Jungutbatu Beach is another excellent spot for sunset in Nusa Lembongan, and you should definitely plan your itinerary accordingly. Consider that you can plan some day trips around this bay, including shipwrecks and other snorkelling activities. Surf at shipwreck point
As we have introduced, many Nusa Lembongan activities involve shipwreck exploration. We did it once also in the Caribbean in Barbados, and it was mind-blowing. The coasts off Nusa Lembongan are well known for the preserved reef, making it also one of the best surfing spots in Southeast Asia. However, we suggest this point only if you are an experienced surfer; the waves are pretty strong, and the rocks are surfacing. If you are a beginner, go to Mushroom Bay, where there are a few Surf schools for beginners, which will help you start easy. It is very affordable to have an instructor for a week or two.
Watch the sunset at Dream Point
Even though this spot is technically not on Nusa Lembongan, you can reach it within 20 minutes on a motorbike from anywhere on the island. Just cross the scenic yellow bridge. Dream Point is a unique sunset spot in Nusa Ceningan. Spend the afternoon sipping a refreshing coconut or a local Bintang with a perfect sunset view from the old tree and swing. Moreover, during low tide, you can walk down and observe the local fishermen catching their daily catch.

Get a gelato at Mushroom Bay
As said above, we loved our routine in Nusa Lembongan. We were working hard at our accommodation but also from Mushroom Espresso or from LGood down the road. However, we were grabbing a gelato at sunset and walking down the bay to witness some of the best sunsets of our lives.
Have some fun – Nusa Lembongan nightlife
While we were slightly disappointed by Nusa Penida’s nightlife, we didn’t expect much from our stay in Nusa Lembongan. Instead, it turns out that the tiny island is more lively than the nearby bigger sister. Of course, you can’t expect the wild nightlife of Bali, but it’s lovely with a chilled atmosphere. Take it slow, enjoy a cocktail or two, watch the sea and listen to live music under the stars. Mushroom Bay is ideal if you want a bit of a lively atmosphere.
Watch sunset at Cloudland Bar Lembongan
Cloudland Bar is located in a secluded area. Even though we have seen many people arriving there with motorbikes, after a heavy storm, we decided to walk there. If you do so, take a torch with you; it gets pretty dark. The bar has a nice view over the cliffs, especially at sunset. It gets pretty crowded, with all the best spots taken at least 2 hours before the sun starts to get down. The Cloudland bar is very affordable. That’s one is one of the main attractions in Nusa Lembongan.
Take a yoga class
The chilled and relaxed atmosphere might be a plus point if you want to slow down. Even though Bali has a high concentration of Yoga classes, you can reset your routing even by staying in Lembongan. There are two major studios in Lembongan: Yoga Dunia Lembongan, one in Mushroom Bay, and the other in Jungutbatu shoreline: Yoga Bliss.
As always, yoga classes in Bali are very affordable, and you can enjoy your stay on Nusa Lembongan island even more.
Witness the waves power at Devil’s Tear
Just a few steps away from dream beach, there is Devil’s Tear. The waves powerfully collide against the rocky cliff, creating stunning spray, rainbows, and natural infinity pools carved through the rocks. This breathtaking natural phenomenon presents an opportunity to witness the magnificent force of waves crashing against cliffs, resulting in a genuinely mesmerising spectacle.
We suggest planning a visit to Devil’s Tear at sunset. It is one of the advantage points of Nusa Lembongan to witness the perfect sunsets. After all, getting to Devil’s Tear via scooter is easy, and there is a parking spot to get in. You must pay a fee of 1$ to visit Devil’s Tears.
Blue Lagoon in Nusa Ceningan
Technically not part of Nusa Lembongan, but on the other side of the yellow bridge. We coordinate a visit to this spot with a beautiful day at Secret Point Beach. Even though we couldn’t swim at the Blue Lagoon because of the seaweed on the surface and the force of the waves crashing in. However, the landscape was surreal, and we loved the walk on the rocks and getting some of the best shots in Nusa Ceningan.
Pura Segara Temple

Roam around the local food market
Discover the vibrant Nusa Lembongan food market during your stay on the island. We always sought to meet locals and discover their stories; the market was a honeypot. For an unforgettable experience, take a stroll through the bustling local markets in the main village on your way to Ceningan Island in the early morning.
If you stay longer, the market is ideal for purchasing fresh fruit and produce locally sourced. We also find markets inspiring, and the one at Lembongan was truly unique. I went there while reaching the yellow bridge and couldn’t miss the chance.
Enjoy the view from Jenggala Hill
We were on the motorbike, returning to our accommodation on the other side of Lembongan. We got to the top of Jenggala hill with few difficulties, and the panorama just opened to us. The view of the island from that side is unbelievable. You will see waves crashing on the surfer point, giving you a clear idea of the coral reef. You can see the least visited area and even the mangroves from the hill. If you love the pretty view, you can also stay overnight in a premium spot.
Booking the hotel on Jenggala Hill, you will surely catch sunrise and sunset in Nusa Lembongan. The pollution here is minimal, so that you will witness something unimaginable. CHECK THE VIEW FROM JENGGALA HILL HOTEL.
Get your diving certification
Most people staying long-term in Bali come to Lembongan to get their Diving certification done. While, of course, the coral reef is a good attraction, it’s also because it’s the cheapest way to get a valid Padi certification. The most popular diving school in Lembongan is nearby Mushroom Bay. Next to the Lounge Restaurant is the Scuba Center, which is the core of this part of the island.
