Yes, Alberobello is safe. Let’s start by saying that despite being a touristy location, we felt completely safe when wandering around Alberobello. The locals are friendly and welcoming, and you will feel at home. We carried our equipment all around, placing the tripod on the streets and taking pictures, and we felt safe. Although, always be careful! You never know what can happen, and you don’t want a little incident to ruin your holiday.

2 Days! If you’re looking for a unique experience in Alberobello, we suggest staying overnight in a cute Trullo house and thoroughly enjoying the town. Alberobello is unique, and in 2 days, you should be able to visit the entire town and experience the local culture.

Roam around Alberobello early in the morning, without anyone around and enjoy the morning breeze while walking around the cute narrow streets.

Visit Alberobello for its Trulli

One of the main reasons why is Alberobello worth visiting is thanks to its Trulli, a UNESCO world heritage site. In fact, Alberlobello is known for its Trulli, a unique characteristic of the town’s houses with a conical cone-shaped rooftop. While exploring Itria Valley, you will see many Trullo houses around, but Alberobello is the famous place where you can admire them from. From Trullo Sovrano to the smallest Trullo, you will be impressed to see how many cute houses with this cone-shaped roof you can find around the town.

The white village offers an incredible landscape

During our Puglia road trip, we completely loved its incredible landscape. Once you arrive in Alberobello, you will have a snap preview of the city from above, and you will feel like you’re in a fairytale village. But, honestly, it’s one of the prettiest places to visit in Puglia for a reason. Admire the multiple panoramas across Alberobello, and make sure you check out the viewpoint overlooking Rione Monti. It’s one of the best spots to catch a lovely view of Alberobello. 

Unique architecture | You will never see a trullo house again!

Alberobello’s architecture is incomparable! From the unique church with a cone-shaped roof to the smallest trullo in Alberobello, the architecture you will find in town is nowhere else to be found. Visit the stunning St. Antonio Church and step inside to admire the incredible architecture it has to offer.

Opened to the public in 1927, the church is today an important sight you must visit. It is the only trullo church globally, and it’s the symbol of the struggle against religions. Tasty food

One of the best reasons to visit Alberobello is for its food. We love Apulian food, and you must try every single dish while in Puglia. You will try the best dishes from the restaurant to the local Masseria or Argiturismo. Make sure you try the local cheese and olive oil. I know it might sound bizarre, but we love having as a little snack olive oil with bread. It’s so yummy!

For a great experience, we recommend booking a cooking class in Alberobello. Cooking with locals is fantastic, and you will see how nice and passionate they are while they teach you the local dishes. If you’re not really into cooking, you can still book a dining experience in a local’s house and taste all their delicious food.

Sip local wine

There is nothing better than Italian wine or, better said, Apulian wine. We tasted the most delicious wine during our one week in Puglia. From Nero di Troia, Primitivo, Bombino Nero and negroamaro, you must try Alberobello’s wine. If you’re having dinner in a local restaurant or trattoria, ask them about the house wine “vino della casa,” and you won’t be disappointed. 

Perfect for a nature lover

Surrounded by Itria Valley, Alberobello is a great destination for nature lovers. You can take part in many hiking trails and discover the surrounding area of Alberobello. Bosco Selva is considered the “green heart” or Alberobello thanks to its beautiful tree, located 800 meters from the town. It’s a unique oasis ideal if you’re looking for a walk, cycle or hike.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we still love to share with our friends and family. Puglia at Christmas is a must! From the main cities like Bari and Brindisi to Alberobello, there are so many unique places worth visiting in Alberobello for Christmas. Once you reach Alberobello, you will see how the incredible town is decorated with Christmas lights, trees and decorations. Alberobello is worth visiting at Christmas, and if you’re planning your Puglia itinerary, you should consider this time of the year.  

Great day trips opportunities 

You can organise amazing day trips from Alberobello and discover the surrounding areas. If you’re looking for a nice beach day, Monopoli’s beaches are the best, and from Alberobello, you can reach within a 25-minute drive. Additionally, you can visit the nearby town of Locorotondo or Martina Franca. From Alberobello, there is a direct train to reach either of these two towns. When to visit Alberobello

The best time to visit Alberobello is in Spring or late summer when the days are mostly sunny and not extremely hot. We visited Alberobello the third week of September, and we had the most amazing weather, sunny, no rain and perfect for a swim as well! 

Alberobello in Spring | Spring comes early in Southern Italy; in fact, already from early March, you can get charming sunny days in Puglia. Visiting Alberobello in Spring is ideal if you’re looking to avoid the scorching weather that the summer months can cause. March, April and May are the ideal months to visit Alberobello! 

Summer in Alberobello | If you’re planning a trip to Puglia in the summer, a stop at Alberobello is a must. Although, be ready for hot weather and warm days. For a town that doesn’t have the sea, there might be better options than Alberobello in summer; however, it’s still worth visiting.

Alberobello in winter | When thinking about Alberobello in winter, we immediately think about Christmas. Alberobello at Christmas is magical. The town is decorated with Christmas decorations and trees, and it’s amazing to visit. 

Autumn in Alberobello | Autumn in southern Italy can still be pretty nice and sunny. October could be a great month to visit Alberobello. Less touristy than winter and summer months, autumn in Alberobello is a great idea to plan your trip.

How to get to Alberobello

Getting to Alberobello is easy as there are many ways to get there. In fact, if you’re planning a day trip from Bari, you can easily reach Alberobello by train, bus or by renting a car.

CAR

This may be the easiest way to get around Puglia. You can rent a car in Bari or Brindisi airport and reach Alberobello. This is because there are so many parking spaces, private and public. Once you arrive in Alberobello, the best parking space is Parking nel Verde, Parking Largo Michelangelo La Sorte, and the cheapest one is Alberobello Parking downtime. (€6 all day). 

Reach Alberobello by public transport

TRAIN

From Bari, you can reach Alberobello by train, although you need to change the train at Putignano station. You can check the route and pre-book the tickets on the Trenitalia website. To make your journey easier, you can stay in Martina Franca and take the direct train from the station to Alberobello. The journey is around 15 to 30 minutes.
