We loved our day trip to Krka National Park. Often overshadowed by Plitvice Lakes, Krka National Park is a unique green spot in Croatia. The protected area is outside Šibenik and is one of Croatia’s most visited tourist destinations. 

You will walk along wooden passages through unbelievable blue turquoise water, mighty waterfalls and cute spots. The most famous spot is the Skradinski Buk waterfall, one of the world’s most beautiful natural wonders. You will love the park; in fact, when you arrive at Skradin, you have to take a scenic boat ride that will take you to the entrance. We went first by boat and then hiked the path, which showed us incredible lushes, greenery and limestone cliffs.

Take the ferry to Hvar Island

Hvar is a beautiful island off the coast of Šibenik, making for a great day trip. We believe that the most attractive things are the architecture, the laid-down atmosphere and the pristine beach. The island is easily accessible by ferry from Šibenik, making it a convenient and unforgettable day trip destination.

Enjoy the beauty of Split

We included this paragraph just because you might be touring the country, and in your Croatia Itinerary, Sibenik comes first. However, the little town is just 80 Kilometres north of Split, the second city in Croatia.

Overall Trogir is a historic coastal town located just 30 kilometres south of Šibenik. The easiest way to get to Trogir from Šibenik is by public bus, with regular daily departures.

Once in Trogir, visitors can explore the town’s UNESCO-listed historic centre, which features a wealth of well-preserved mediaeval architecture. Also, during your day trip, make sure to see the stunning Cathedral of Saint Lawrence in the centre of the town, down to the river, the Kamerlengo Fortress, and Central Square.

Well, we suggest getting a proper tour and booking the activity in advance, especially if you are visiting Croatia in Summer. Kornati National Park is around Šibenik, a cluster of 89 islands, islets, and reefs. The park is home to some of the most sensational natural landscapes in the world, including towering cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and diverse wildlife. Sibenik might not be the most popular place in Croatia, but it is still worth a few days. If you travel through Croatia, we suggest spending at least two days in Sibenik. The fantastic old town is worth a whole day of exploring. If you have enough time, you can visit the Cathedral of St. James, the St. Michael’s Fortress, the main square and the promenade.

Suppose you can allocate another day, spending three days in Šibenik. In that case, you will have plenty of time to enjoy also surrounding activities, such as island hopping, Kornati National Park and Krka National Park.

We must say that Šibenik is an extraordinary destination for a weekend getaway in Croatia. Also, consider it an alternative location to base yourself while touring the Dalmatian Coasts.

How to get around Sibenik

WALK | Šibenik is one of the most pleasant walks we had in Croatia. The pedestrian-friendly old town that is easy to navigate on foot. You will find yourself walking for hours without seeing or hearing of a car through narrow alleys and little cobblestone streets.

BUS | You don’t need any transport to stay in Šibenik for a few days, and only for day trips. But be assured that the city is served by a reliable public transport system that can easily take you to the major sights on the outskirts. If you want more laydown time while in Sibenik, you can stay away from the old town, and just take the bus to the centre when needed. The city has a reliable bus system that connects the old town with other parts of the city and the surrounding area.

BIKE | Renting a bike is always a great way to explore a new destination. You can easily navigate the old town and surroundings by bike, enjoying the itinerary at your own pace. Actually, a stroll on the promenade by bike is romantic and relaxing.
