All you should know about where to stay in Ibiza
What to know about Ibiza
First things first, Ibiza is not just nightlife, and you can check our suggestions on how to visit Ibiza as a couple. However, let’s be honest, you can party in Ibiza around the clock. Today Ibiza is a symbol of freedom, the best landscapes, hippie lifestyle, amazing sunset, perfect beaches and dreamy resorts.
The hippie spirit of the island started back during the Spanish Civil War, when deserters, hippies, and sailors fled to Ibiza.
Since then the land started to change, becoming the modern Ibiza, an island of fun and all-night free spirit. Still today in some parts of Ibiza you can find local hippie traditions, like in Cala Benirras at sunset, where you can enjoy the landscape with drum circles. The hippie spirit is also in the local markets, especially in the areas of Santa Eulalia, where local vendors sell craft goods.
Today Ibiza offers one of the best LGBT scenes on the continent, but also incredible restaurants, luxurious hotels and on a budget accommodations with an uncommon view of the Mediterranean sea. Despite the conventional thinking, Ibiza is not only a paradise for clubbing, the island offers a handful of family-friendly beach resorts and options for couples as well.
We will give you tips about when to visit Ibiza later on, but bear in mind that you should avoid July and August as it’s the summer peak.

How to reach Ibiza
Ibiza International airport is just 7Km southwest of Ibiza Town, easy to reach by public transport or private taxi. The airport is served by domestic and international flights, which become intense during summer.
There is a fast connection between Ibiza Town and the airport by bus. The ticket costs €3.50 and it stops along the way, also in Playa d’En Bossa.
Another way to reach Ibiza is by private taxi hire. If you book in advance you taxi this will cost no more than €20. This can also be shared, so if you find a fellow traveller who wants to split the bill, you are welcome to do so.
We also suggest you consider renting a car. This was life-saving for us, helping to explore every remote corner of Ibiza hassle-free. In some cases renting a car is also cheaper compared to the overall total cost of your transports within the holidays, and this is the case of Ibiza. Driving a car was so easy, and the drop off car works also at night.
From Ibiza airport to city centre
There is a fast connection between Ibiza Town and the airport by bus. The ticket costs €3.50 and it stops along the way, also in Playa d’en Bossa. The service is very good and works also late at night. We took our bus for the night flight around 2 a.m., and within 20 minutes we were at the gate.
You can hop on the Ibiza airport shuttle just outside the arrivals, and at the return, he will leave you at the main entrance.

Where to stay in Ibiza location per location
South | Ibiza Town is the main city of the Island, where the international airport is located. This is the gateway to the Isla Bonita. The beautiful lagoon beach of Las Salinas, surrounded by a natural park is the perfect location to stay in Ibiza, especially for clubbers.
North | the picturesque north side of Ibiza, is keeping the traditional style and folklore. Made up of quiet beach resorts in Ibiza and newly refurbished villages once populated by fishermen and hippies. The best location here is Portinatx.
East | The most significant town on the east side of the island is Santa Eularia, which is also the second-largest town in Ibiza. This spot has many wonderful resorts and beach clubs and is the ideal place for families and couples.
West | The San Antonio side is the opposite of the East. Closest to Ibiza Town, the San Antonio Bay offers the most mixed scene of the island. During the day it is easy to find families strolling around, and at night the town changes to become a party place. Also, this is one of the best beaches in Ibiza.
Best locations to stay in Ibiza
Ibiza Town | Where to stay in Ibiza for partying
Highlights | Culture, Nightlife, Gay-Friendly, Luxury, Shopping, Restaurants
The biggest city on the island is Ibiza Town, the classic Spanish city with a maze of narrow streets that hike up to the Castle. This is the busiest location on the Island, full of trendy restaurants, fine boutiques, nice hotels and a beautiful promenade. Not many know that the old town of Eivissa is a Unesco World Heritage site, and this includes the medieval walls, the fortress and the upper town. Beautiful to explore.
It is a pleasure to walk around Ibiza town, and chill in a bar around the city centre. We suggest you check out Sa Penya and the area around the old port quarters, behind there is also a lively gay-friendly street, and many other bars and clubs. The lively area of Ibiza offers fun until late at night and is the location to chill before heading to the clubs.
Figuretas
Highlights | Clubbers, gay-friendly, budget accommodations
Distance from Airport | 10 minutes
Just 15 minutes walking away from Ibiza Town you can reach Figueretes, this is the closest location to enjoy the beaches from the main city. Playa de Ses Figueretes is always crowded because of its position, however, is a good spot to enjoy a bit of sunshine after landing in Ibiza.
The 1Km beach is also nearby the well known Playa d’En Bossa, full of beach clubs and parties. You can also take the boat taxi that will take you to Es Canar. As you might understand Figueretas is the perfect location if you are staying in Ibiza Town, and organizing from here your beach trips, without missing any party at night.
Cala Talamanca
Highlights | Amazing Beach, View on Ibiza Town, Close to Pacha Disco Club
Distance from Airport | 15 minutes from Ibiza Airport
Another area close to Ibiza Town is Cala Talamanca. The beaches in this stretch of Coast are more beautiful compared to Figueretas, despite the sandy beach being narrow but long. People decide to stay in Cala Talamanca for its vibes, which includes beautiful beaches but a short ride from the city, with many restaurants, bars and watersport activities available along the way.
Close to Cala Talamanca, there is the popular Pachawhich holds a crazy party every Thursday with the ’60s and 70’s theme music and colours. All people get dressed up as back on time, which is also a tribute to the hippie spirit of this island. Check the lineup of the next party.
Despite the short distance from the airport and the nice stretch of sand and safe swimming water, we don’t suggest checking-in Cala Talamanca if visiting Ibiza with your family. However, you can consider it if visiting Ibiza in the low season, chasing a bit of winter sun in Europe. In this case, the location is ideal and not crazy busy.

Playa d’En Bossa
Highlights | ideal for clubbers, nightlife, budget accommodations, sightseeing
Distance from Airport | 10 minutes from Ibiza Airport
This is the most popular location in Ibiza for clubbers, where the popular beach resorts are. This will get crazy busy in spring. Ibiza is one of the most popular destinations for spring break in Europe. At a short distance from the airport and walking distance from Ibiza Town, Playa d’En Bossa offers a 2Km sandy beach, filled with beach clubs, bars, fun places and water sports. Some of the most popular clubs on Playa d’En Bossa are the Ushuaia, Hï Ibiza, and Bora Bora.
Regarding the accommodations, this is the most common place where clubbers look for, and prices are quite affordable. Depending on your budget you can find any kind of solution here. If you want to party in Ibiza, this is the right location, so you will avoid transportation costs. Like in Cala Talamanca, we don’t suggest to families to check accommodations in Playa d’En Bossa if not in the low season. Below you can find some suggestions on where to stay in Playa d’En Bossa, Evissa.

After a few locations ideal for clubbers, it is now time to open our list of best places to stay in Ibiza for families. We often argue with friends, opening their minds about the fact that Ibiza is not just for clubbers, but also for families and couples. We struggle to find another place in Europe, so at a short-haul from our base in London, that has got nature, beautiful beach, budget accommodations and many activities for couples too. Ibiza has got all that, and even more.
The most popular locations in Ibiza for families are mostly in the northeast of the Island. Drive up to Santa Eularia des Rius, San Antonio, Cala San Vicente or Es Cana’ to find the right place to enjoy holidays with your family. If you are considering visiting the Balearic Islands with your kids, you should also check out Formentera or Majorca and Minorca, which are quieter compared to Ibiza, but no less beautiful.

San Antonio Bay
Highlights | Ideal for families but also clubbers and couples, on a budget, best sunset spots
Distance from Airport | 30 minutes from Ibiza Airport
We think that San Antonio Bay is the quintessential place in Ibiza. Less chaotic than Ibiza Town, and ideal for all sorts of travellers to the Island. The town in North-west Evissa welcomes young clubbers, but also families looking for an affordable break from the routine.
You might don’t know but San Antonio Bay has the greatest density of hotels, hostels and generic accommodations on the whole island; not only the town features some of the most beautiful beaches in Ibiza. Cala Gracio
Highlights | Close to San Antonio, quieter area, ideal for beach lovers
Distance from Airport | 30 minutes from Ibiza Airport

Within just 15 minutes walking from the centre of San Antonio, you will reach this place, surrounded by high cliffs, with blue turquoise water, ideal for all sorts of water sports. The crystal clear water of the cove is ideal for swimming with Children, and the pine trees provide shade.
The beach also offers a few restaurants and beach bars to get something fresh. If you are visiting Ibiza in summer, this small beach will be overcrowded, and you might have to walk a bit to reach the smallest area of Cala Gracioneta.
Cala Llonga
Highlights | Great beach, surrounded by nature, ideal for families and couples
Distance from Airport | 25 minutes from Ibiza Airport
Cala Llonga is one of our favourite beaches in Ibiza. The small beach of Cala Llonga features some of the most charming resorts in Ibiza, all lined up on the hill, surrounded by pines. This is a sandy blue flag beach, so you might also understand why many locals head here, not only in summer. The vibes of this Cala, are more exotic, with plenty of bars, restaurants and shops.
We can assure you that you can relax a lot around Cala Llonga, and the prices are very budget-friendly in terms of accommodations. If your ideal holiday in Ibiza is just to wake up, go to the beach, relax a bit with a couple of drinks and have a few nights out at the restaurant, and have a crazy time at the clubs, this is the ideal spot in Ibiza.
This tiny beach of just about 200 metres long offers many opportunities to travellers. You can dive into the blue turquoise water or just play beach volleyball. Also, in summer you can take advantage of the water taxi, which runs from Ibiza Town and San Eulalia.
The Resorts all around the tiny scratch of sand also offer daily ferry service for day trips to Formentera.
Cala Llenya
Highlights | Ideal for families, relax, watersports
Distance from Airport | 35 minutes from Ibiza Airport
This is the proper resort village typical of Ibiza. Cala Llenya or as called on the Island Cala Lleña is on the northeastern coast of Ibiza. The hotels and accommodations are mostly on the north side of the beach. This is the ideal location for water sports addicts, thanks to the many facilities available for snorkelling, paddle, windsurfing and many others.
Es Caná | Es Canar of Ibiza

Es Caná is one of the most suggestive destinations on our guide to where to stay in Ibiza. This is another beach resort a short distance from Santa Eulalia. The location is open to every kind of traveller to Ibiza. We know that even clubbers addicts need an oasis of peace and relaxation within a short walking distance from paradisiac beaches. Es Cana is all of that, with the many restaurants, and its vibes. This location is ideal for foodies too.
A family-friendly vibe, with plenty of bars, organized beaches and watersports activities. Es Cana’ also hosts one of the most famous hippie markets every week. For this one, you should drive or walk to Punta Arabi.
If you are a curious explorer like us, you can’t miss enjoying excursions to the nearby Cala Llenya, to Niu Blau, Cala Pada, Cala Nova or S’Argamassa.
Es Canar is also ideal for a few day trips to the small islands around the cove. You should consider Es Canà as an on a budget location where to stay in Ibiza; It is also worth considering the quality of the accommodations, a very quiet environment ideal for families.

Santa Eulalia | Best place to stay in Ibiza for families
Highlights | Good restaurants, town vibes, slow holiday, ideal for families and older travellers
Distance from Airport | 20 minutes from Ibiza Airport
At a short distance from our previous location, Es Canar, Santa Eularia des Riu is called by locals. Still feeling the town vibes, Santa Eulalia is a popular destination that has got some of the best places to stay in Ibiza. With more than 3 kilometres of golden sand and Mediterranean vibes, it’s easy to find the right resort to enjoy your holidays on the island.
Santa Eulalia is the perfect hot spot to stay and discover the rest of the island. It’s easy to reach the town from Ibiza by water taxi, and with the same, you can reach Es Cana’. This allows you to save some money on renting a car if your intention is just to enjoy the beaches.
The town itself is very pleased, with many boutiques, bars, a long promenade with palm trees and aperitif clubs, and a stroll around Passeig del Port. If you are looking for the best restaurants in town we suggest checking out at Calle San Vicente, instead of shopping in the local boutique, go to Calle Sant Jaime.

Cala San Vicente
Highlights | Picturesque bay, sandy beaches, on a budget, hidden beaches
Distance from Airport | 40 minutes from Ibiza Airport
Cala San Vicente is located on the north of Es Figueral, is the last reachable point taking the high road PM-810 from Ibiza which passes by Santa Eulalia. This is the ideal location to stay in Ibiza for direct contact with nature. Around the picturesque bay, there are so many hidden beaches that are worth discovering. If you are in love with less known places, you will love this hidden gem of Ibiza. Cala San Vincente is not yet spoiled and it is easy to find good prices for your next accommodation.
Where to stay in Ibiza for Couples
We loved Ibiza so much, and it is always on top of our list of places to visit, even if we have discovered every corner of this island. The following locations are tailored to couple needs, the best places and solutions to enjoy a perfect staycation in Ibiza. In this list of ideal places to stay in Ibiza for couples, there is Es Figueral, Es Cubellis, Portinatx and Sant Antoni. You will discover which is our favourite, however, it’s not easy and we suggest roaming around the different locations to try out the diverse styles. Every single spot features incredible experiences to do in Ibiza and unique beaches.
Es Figueral
Highlights | Water Sports, ideal for couples, Excursions
Distance from Airport | 35 minutes from Ibiza Airport
Close to the popular Santa Eulalia, which is adapted to older vacationers, there is Es Figueral. This small picturesque town is the perfect relaxing spot for couples in Ibiza. Es Figueral offers incredible opportunities for water sports. The rocky bay is ideal for snorkelling, or just rent a kayak and discover the hidden inlets.
For incredible magic moments, enjoy the sunset on the beach with a clear view over Illa Tagomago. However, Es Figueral is a very quiet place, and, if you are looking for more vibes you have to reach Santa Eulalia for a more lively atmosphere.

Es Cubellis
Highlights | Authentic Stay, fresh products, paradisiac hidden beaches, off the beaten path in Ibiza
Distance from Airport | 10 minutes from Ibiza Airport
This is a less known place in Ibiza. Located between Vista Alegre and Cala D’Hort, this is one of our favourite areas in Ibiza, because it keeps the local vibes. You will stay in traditional whitewashed accommodations, surrounded by nature, orange groves, little farms and holiday villas.
This is the right place to find bargains for villas and cute apartments. In Es Cubells you will not find any resort or hotel, which make this place even more authentic. We hope that this area remains the heaven it is today.
The ideal spot is where to enjoy hidden rocky beaches, but also where to relax after a night out in Ibiza Town (about 20 minutes away) or at the Blue Marlin, the most trendy beach club on the island. Es Cubells is very easy to reach from the airport, so you don’t necessarily need to rent a car for your stay.
Portinatx
Highlights | Different, Scenic Bay, Pretty town, plenty of bars and fun
Distance from Airport | 40 minutes from Ibiza Airport
Portinatx is another incredible location in Ibiza to stay. This place in the north of the island has got some of the best beach resorts in Europe. The beautiful little town of Portinatx seems like a whole resort, made of small single ones. It’s not a secret that people who travel to Ibiza every year prefer to spend their holidays in Portinatx more than in other places in Ibiza.
The community up here has got all you need to make your vacation unique and relaxing. Perfect for friends, couples and families, Portinatx is the quintessential location to travel to if you want a proper holiday in the Mediterranean. Arguably the most complete location in the Balearic, Portinatx offer budget accommodations with all-inclusive options, adventure, water sports, day trips completely absorbed and surrounded by nature.
Portinatx is everything but boring, just 5 minutes driving away from the relaxing resort centre you will have beach resorts with music, aperitif and party all night long (but not overcrowded like Ibiza Town). We should dedicate an entire paragraph to the best beaches in Portinatx. You can enjoy S’Arenal Gros, S’Arenal Petit, the smallest one, and Playa Porto Beach, the closest to the resorts. Enjoy every kind of activity on the beaches, from scuba diving to snorkelling, paddle boarding, Kayaking and many more.
Sant Antonii de Portmany | San Antonio
Highlights | Young people, on budget accommodations, ideal for friends, amazing nightlife
Distance from Airport | 30 minutes from Ibiza Airport
Sant Antoni de Portmany is a more chaotic Portinatx. This town welcomes young people and families. While exploring Sant Antoni we understood that this town has a double face, very quiet in the morning, with families and kids on the beach and crazy at night.
However San Antonio is more affordable compared to Ibiza Town, the beach is so wide and beautiful overlooking the entire bay. Enjoy an amazing aperitif at Cafe del Mar, with the unique sunrise strolling around the promenade. We have visited both Cafe del Mar and Mambo cafe’ and can say that if you decide to stay in San Antonio, you make the right decision.
Best Place to Stay in Ibiza for Beaches
Many people travel to Ibiza just because of the crazy nightlife, and just a few, the bravest, discover one of the most unique islands in the Mediterranean. Discovering the Cala, Coves and hidden spots you will find many incredible landscapes and spots. Something that you can’t imagine.
Travelling through Ibiza we were looking for Punta Galera, however, after the main parking space, where everyone stopped the car, the road was still going up. The map was showing another spot, however, we had to climb down the rocks to eventually find the “beach”. This is Ibiza, an adventure surrounded by nature. Our prize is one of the most incredible dives we have done so far.
All that to say, if you are looking for a relaxing holiday with a bit of fun, a few drinks in the evening and beaches all day long, you should look for Sant Antoni, Santa Eulalia or Portinatx to find the best places to stay in Ibiza for beaches. Down below you will see our list of places to find accommodation in Ibiza for beaches.
Port de Sant Miquel
Highlights | Seclude beaches, ideal for families and couples, best sunset spot in Ibiza
Distance from Airport | 30 minutes from Ibiza Airport
Just about 10 minutes driving away from Portinatx you will find San Miguel or in the local language Port de Sant Miquel, a former fishing village. The view from here is fantastic, with big sandy beaches going over the promenade and crystal clear water.
As all the area of Portinatx is adapted to families and couples, also Port de Sant Miquel is very quiet. We suggest you rent a car, stay in Port de Sant Miquel and travel from here for a party and fun. This part of the island is what remains of the hipster culture, with the beautiful sunset time with the drums, a unique experience to do in Ibiza. It’s worth knowing also that you can reach San Antonio from the nearby Portinatx by public transport, and the whole trip will take about half an hour.

Port d’Es Torrent and Cala Bassa
Highlights | Easy to reach, unique resorts, best view on Es Vedra
Distance from Airport | 25 minutes from Ibiza Airport
Let’s go to the San Antonio surrounding area. The surrounding Port D’Es Torrent secluded some of the most beautiful beaches in Ibiza. We enjoyed our stay in Cala Bassa, but also the view of Es Vedra from Cala Comte at sunset.
Just 5 minutes driving away from San Antonio you will find the small resort area of Port d’Es Torrent, a quieter area away from the crowded town.
This is the place where families find peace outside of San Antonio, still having some of the best beaches on the island. However, it is indeed beautiful but this tends to be an overcrowded area during summer. On the other hand, we suggest you find a unique resort, away from the crowds, with private beaches, or at least rent a car to travel to some hidden spots.
Cala Tarida
Highlights | Perfect for families, beautiful beaches, best holiday villas
Distance from Airport | 25 minutes from Ibiza Airport
Cala Tarisa is growing in popularity in the last few years. Business is growing too, attracting travellers from all over the world, thanks to the natural area and the curated resorts. This might be the best option to stay around San Antonio. The busy town is just 15 minutes away from Cala Tarida, which makes the perfect combination of fun and relaxation. There is also the option to reach San Antonio by bus if you don’t rent a car in Ibiza.
If you are looking to stay in Cala Tarida it is good to know that this features the largest hotel complex on this part of the island, but there are also budget-friendly accommodations, a combination of rental apartments and luxury villas with a pool as well.

Cala Vadella
Highlights | Family-friendly, fresh food, water sports
Distance from Airport | 30 minutes from Ibiza Airport
Cala Vadella is less popular than Cala Tarida, however, in summer the short stretch of the beach becomes overcrowded, especially during July and August. If you are planning to visit Ibiza in June, Cala Vadella might be a good option for you. Thanks to the amazing surrounding nature, it is a quiet place to spend a few nights. The close bay offers the right spot for families with kids, and the beach is simply beautiful.
Around Cala Vadella there is everything you need for a relaxing hotel, a few charming boutiques for shopping, restaurants, bars and activities. You can also organize day trips from here with many walking trails around the hills, or boat trips.
Best Places to stay in Ibiza for nature lovers
San Carles de Peralta
Highlights | Traditional, away from crowds, essential trip
Distance from Airport | 40 minutes from Ibiza Airport
If you are looking for a quiet place away from the crowds of the beaches, and the craziness of the clubs, you should consider San Carlos as your stay in Ibiza. Yes, it is a completely different way to live in Ibiza, but it’s for nature lovers.
San Carles will let you get into the skin of the island, feeling the vibes of an authentic Ibiza village, twisted between the hills on the north of Santa Eulalia, at middle way between Cala Llenia and Es Figueral. You can reach San Carles by taking the PM 810, the main road that takes travellers from Ibiza town to the rest of the Island. Feel the vibes of the first hippest of Ibiza, in a completely different atmosphere away from the wild party scene and the coast side.
There are not that many accommodation options, and those are filled so quickly.
Sant Rafael
Highlights | Party place, nature lovers, authentic
Distance from Airport | 20 minutes from Ibiza Airport
Still talking about incredible villages in Ibiza, it’s now time to introduce you to Sant Rafael. In the local language, you will find this as San Rafel de Sa Creu. The small village in the middle way between San Antonio and Ibiza Town is the location of some of the craziest and most famous nightclubs on the island. From the centre of San Rafael, you can walk to Amnesia and the Privilege, everything surrounded by nature and hills.
Indeed, it is not a quiet place, however, it is overall a place to enjoy nature if you don’t want just to party.
Where to Stay in Ibiza for the Best Nightlife
This is the first thing Ibiza is famous for, parties! If you are looking for the best place to stay in Ibiza for parties, we have covered bits and bites in each location. However, we feel we can give a full overview of the best accommodations in Ibiza for nightlife.
Definitely, Playa d’En Bossa is the first on our list, this is the location where we stayed the first time in Ibiza. Playa d’en Bossa hosts some of the best superclubs in Ibiza, like the Ushuaïa and Hï and Bora Bora. This is also the ideal to combine your holidays with parties and beaches.
If you want just to party, the best location is San Rafel, we have mentioned before. To reach the beaches from San Rafel you should rent a car and go to San Antoni or on the opposite way to Ibiza Town.

Ibiza Car rental tip
We rented a car in Ibiza and it was the best thing ever. Without the car we could have missed some of the most incredible spots, some of them hidden and discovered just because we got lost.
However, it’s common to hear about scams in Ibiza for rental cars, and that’s why we suggest you book your car in advance and just through secure providers. We use discover car which compares prices and find the best deal.
This is our list of things while renting a car:

First Check
Book in advance (2 months minimum)
– Search for both airport rental and city centre
– Take photos when getting the car (take photos of the gasoline as well)
– Avoid extras if unnecessary (GPS is on your mobile)

Also is worth to..
– Check if there is a mileage limitation
– Avoid renting the car at the Airport desk
– Say no if they want you to purchase extra insurance (we did insurance online and one on-site once)
Reserve your car before arriving to Ibiza
When to visit Ibiza
Ibiza is always beautiful, even in winter. However, depending on the kind of holiday you are looking for we can suggest a few periods to check out.
The high season in Ibiza starts from mid-June until mid-September with all the nightclubs closing. However, we love to travel in September, when most of the holiday destinations are less crowded, but the weather is still nice and hot, Ibiza is to be avoided. If you are willing to travel to Ibiza without crowds you can go from mid-May until mid-June, or from mid-September to October.
