Local cuisine: Ibiza vs Mallorca
We were impressed by Mallorquinas cuisine. We found a lot of similarities with Valencia food, but also a fusion with the Catalan way of cooking and mixing ingredients. Food is an essential part of any vacation, and both Ibiza and Mallorca have plenty of delicious dishes to offer. However, this category sees Mallorca winning against Ibiza.
Ibiza Food
Ibiza’s cuisine is influenced by its Mediterranean location, and its dishes are fresh and flavorful. The island is famous for its seafood, and you can indulge in dishes like grilled octopus, paella, and fresh fish. Ibiza also has several local specialities, like sobrasada, a cured sausage made from pork, and ensaimada, a sweet pastry.
We found the food in Ibiza to be a cliché of traditional Spanish dishes but without a proper Balearic identity. Seems that the fact that the island lives in tourism all year round makes their cuisine mix with Westernised food and quick bites more than traditional Spanish plates. This is, of course, our personal opinion, but it seems pretty standard among travellers.
Mallorca Food
Mallorca’s cuisine blends Spanish and Mediterranean flavours, and its dishes are hearty and delicious. As said, our perception of the local mallorquinos food was a blend of Catalan, Valencian and, in some ways, North African influences.
The island is famous for its ensaimada, a sweet pastry that is usually eaten for breakfast. Mallorca’s cuisine also features dishes like a trumpet, a vegetable casserole, and frito mallorquín, a meat and vegetable stew. We had some of the best prawns cooked in a clay pot and served still boiling on our table. The gambas a la mallorquina are our favourite dish to try whenever we return to Mallorca.
Outdoor Activities and Attractions
We don’t have a clear winner for this category. However, we visited Mallorca twice, in summer and winter, and it was fantastic in both seasons. Ibiza, instead, was mostly in summer. Both Mallorca and Ibiza offer a wealth of outdoor activities and attractions to explore.
Mallorca is perfect for hikers and cyclists with its stunning trails and routes in the Tramuntana Mountains and coastal cliffs. Meanwhile, Ibiza is a magnet for boating enthusiasts with numerous boat tours and snorkelling and diving spots.
History buffs will also love the charming towns and cultural landmarks on both islands.

Culture and History | Ibiza vs Mallorca
We were impressed by the rich cultural and historical heritage of Mallorca. At the time of our visit, Alessia hadn’t yet visited Barcelona, which was next on our travelling schedule. Until then, Alessia was still in the position that Madrid was better than Barcelona; however, having a glimpse of Catalan-style architecture, she was yet to change her mind.
Ibiza, on the other hand, impressed us just by the old town. The rest of the island is relatively new and doesn’t give us the vibes of a cultural destination.
Overall, from the Phoenicians to the Christians, both islands have been shaped by a fascinating blend of cultures over the centuries. Are Ibiza and Mallorca Family-Friendly?
Mallorca is definitely more family friendly compared to Ibiza. But this is a partially true sentence.
While both Ibiza and Mallorca offer plenty of fun activities and attractions for visitors of all ages, Mallorca is considered to be more family-oriented than Ibiza. With its wide range of family-friendly activities, including water parks, theme parks, and adventure parks, as well as many kid-friendly beaches and nature reserves, Mallorca is the perfect choice for families with children.
On the other hand, Ibiza does have some family-friendly options. If you are still looking to explore Ibiza with kids, check out the area of Saint Eulalia, which is the calmest and most relaxing zone of Ibiza on the East side. So, if you’re planning a family vacation, Mallorca is definitely the way to go!

Let’s start by saying that Mallorca is cheaper compared to Ibiza. It is a massive statement because staying on a budget while exploring Ibiza is still possible. That said, budgeting is an important consideration when planning a trip to the Balearic Islands. While both Mallorca and Ibiza can be expensive destinations, Mallorca is generally more budget-friendly than Ibiza.
The Isla Blanca is known for its luxury lifestyle and high-end clubs, which can quickly eat into your wallet.
In contrast, Mallorca offers a wider range of affordable options for accommodation, food, and activities, making it an ideal destination for budget-conscious travellers. From street food to local markets, there are plenty of affordable dining options to choose from.

Mallorca is slightly cheaper than Ibiza, and having a thriving city, it offers more options for budget travellers. Regarding the accommodations, you can find cheaper options in Mallorca, but still, Spain in summer is very pricey, and you have to plan accordingly.
